Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
